Air fryer potato chips
Air fryer potato chips are a great healthy snack. It’s almost too simple to write a recipe about this amazing snack but I feel like I have to because it is SO easy and worthwhile!

When you are trying to eat a healthy diet, for whatever reason, it can feel like you are so restricted! There are many reasons to avoid processed junk; it is really low in nutritional value, it is a very large factor in the obesity problem the world has right now. Among other reasons, junk food is very high in saturated fat, salt and sugar, and we all know that this is bad for us.
The only way to stick to a certain way of eating in my opinion is to make an effort not to feel deprived. A lot of this is a change in mind-set; making sure that you have your reasons for doing it in the first place in the forefront of your mind. I have written about this before here. Second to that though, there are clever ideas to eat your favourite foods but in a healthier way.
These air fryer potato chips are great as a snack or as a side dish. They are so incredibly easy to make, delicious and healthy. What’s not to like, and who doesn’t like crisps?
Flavours
I have kept these potato chips plain and just added salt, ready salted if you like. You can really mix it up with the flavour though. Your favourite herbs would be great, or some garlic granules. Alternatively you could add cayenne pepper or paprika to spice them up a bit. The possibilities are endless.
Oil or no oil
I drastically limit my oil consumption and only occasionally use a good quality olive oil. With these chips it is your choice. I have sprayed a little olive oil on my crisps but they do crisp up nicely without it too.
How to make
Firstly I leave the skin on for these; I think it gives a good texture. The skins also have a lot of nutrients, so I like to keep them on when I can. However if you would prefer to peel the potatoes first then obviously it would work out just fine too. You do you!
Next you need to slice the potatoes as thinly as you can. If you do not slice them thinly you end up with chips (French fries), equally as yummy and not a waste at all, but not what we are going for here. It is possible to do this by hand, I did because half of my kitchen is all packed up as I am having a new one soon (not soon enough though). It would be easier with a mandolin if you have one, it would keep the slices more consistent and this is what I would have used if I had access to mine!
Now, rinse all of your slices a few times in cold water, you need to get rid of all of the excess starch so that will crisp up nicely.
I like to now lay the slices out on my kitchen side or my chopping board on some kitchen paper. I also like to pat them dry with kitchen paper too. They do not have to be bone dry but it is best if they are not wet.
Now spray them with a little olive oil if desired and if you want to add spices or herbs, here is where you will do it.
Now just add them to your air fryer and keep tossing them every 5 minutes. It will depend on your fryer but mine usually take about 20 minutes. Be warned though; don’t leave them for too long without tossing them. Not only will they have more potential to stick together (preventing all sides from browning) but they burn easily too.
Again it depends on the air fryer but don’t be afraid to turn the temperature down if you think they are cooking too quickly.
When they are all crispy, serve them in whichever way you desire. I add salt for the last step.
That’s it, so quick and easy and not a processed crisp in sight!
As you can see from my photos I have served mine with Guacamole , such a good combination, click on the word to be taken to that recipe too!
Enjoy
