Hot chocolate orange is such a comfort. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, who doesn’t love it?

I have been a chocoholic for as long as I can remember, so it was really difficult when I decided to give up sugar for health reasons. Sugar can be a huge trigger for those with autoimmune diseases. It can cause inflammation and so is a big no no for me. You can read more about the reason I restrict my diet here.

It wasn’t long before I realised that life without chocolate was not a life I wanted to live so I started experimenting with hot chocolate to curb my sweet tooth and feel less deprived too.

It worked a treat and now I have it regularly. This hot chocolate orange version is wonderful and very reminiscent of everyone’s favourtie chocolate orange confectionery.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Health and happiness,

Instructions

  • Pour the 500 ML oat milk into a small saucepan and heat gently
  • In two large mugs pour two tablespoons of oat milk and two tablespoons of cacao powder in each and mix into a paste
  • Add one tablespoon of maple syrup to each mug and stir well
  • Add half of the orange zest and half of the orange juice to each mug and mix well
  • When the oat milk is steaming in the saucepan, remove from the heat and pour into the mugs while stirring continuously
  • Enjoy your festive drink!

Notes

This recipe is sweetened using maple syrup and the sweetness of the orange juice.  I fell that this is sweet enough, however, you can add more maple syrup or your sweetner of choice if you prefer it sweeter.
